Is Moisturizers Advisable Or Not

Do need to use moisturizers? This is the most common question often asked by women.  Is it a must to use it? Well, we must know first the many different uses of moisturizers to our skin before we can decide if it is indeed a need or simply a want.

There have been rumors spreading around that moisturizers isn’t really working the way it used to be. That staying long with moisturizers can pose dangers to your skin than working it up.

If I am a regular user of moisturizers and I believe that moisturizers can greatly improve my skin, then this rumors can really affect the way I am using my moisturizers.

I’m gonna think twice if moisturizers are really a must for my skin or not.  If you think that moisturizers are working its way to improving your skin, then probably you are able to get a good brand of moisturizers and you are using it correctly.

Sometimes branding matters, the brand that carries the name of moisturizers are thought to be the best brand of all. What consumers don’t know is that brand names may not necessarily be the best.  It takes a time to check the labels and knows the content of the moisturizers you are using.

Before you know it, the moisturizer contains ingredients that are harmful to your skin.  Just because the brand name is popular, you did not bother to check it out.  Whether it is expensive or cheap, you must always check the ingredients.  It matters because it is your skin that we are talking here.

Well, it really depends as to what kind of moisturizer you are using.  There are some moisturizers that carry a very harmful substance which can be damaging to your skin.  It also depends on the type of skin that you have.

Some skin may not need a moisturizer simply because the skin itself produces hydration.  Normal skin needs not much use of a moisturizer.  But dry skin needs it very much.  So, if you have a dry skin, you should choose the right kind of moisturizer for your skin. Otherwise, your skin condition will only worsen.

We will educate you with regards to the kinds of moisturizers.  Moisturizers are not of the same thing.  There are two kinds of moisturizers.

Two Kinds of Moisturizers:

  • Humectants

Humectants are the type that draws water from the inner layer of the skin to the top layer.  A good example of humectants is glycerin.

  • Emollients

Emollients are the type that keeps the skin soft and smooth while sealing the moisture inside.  It can both be water-based or oil-based.  Some may include petroleum jelly and silicone oil.

Most moisturizers have combined the two.  They are both humectants and emollients.

Our skin contains sebum produced by the sebaceous glands from the inner surface of our skin.  When the sebum resurfaces to the outer layers of the skin, it collects dirt and dead skin cells which sometimes block the pores of our skin.

Therefore, we may say that our skin produces natural oils which may no longer need the use of a moisturizer.  Yes, our skin really produces natural oil which is enough to moisturize our skin.  But due to constant washing of the face, these natural oils are stripped off.  Thus it sometimes makes our skin dry.  That is when moisturizer should come in to prevent the drying of the skin.

If you will be moisturizing your face, but you will neglect the daily washing.  The result will just be the same.   The pores of the skin will still be clogged due to the filling up of dirt and the heavy moisturizers that have never been washed off.

The case is different when you have an oily skin.  For oily skin,  the skin produces too much oil, that it causes the breakouts for pimples, acne and other skin blemishes.   In this case, you don thave to use moisturizers for it may aggravate the situation.

You may wash the face frequently to remove the excess oil and bring back the balance on your skin.

Dry skin is the kind that needs moisturizing.  Obviously, if your skin becomes too dry, it lacks the necessary moisture and hydration.  Therefore, moisturizers would be a great help for your skin type.

Moisturizers provide the need hydration for our skin.  If you have the dry skin type, you need to use a moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out and to prevent the early signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines.

Weighing the pros and cons of using moisturizers for our skin, it really depends on your own individual case.  We can never say that we should use moisturizers even if your skin does not need it that much nor should we say that you should never use a moisturizer even if obviously the dryness of your skin is really becoming prominent.

Moisturizers are good for the skin if you are only able to use it correctly.  Never ever use a moisturizer or it will just add to the clogging of your pores.

But what will really happen if you don’t really use a moisturizer?  Will it give you a negative impact on your skin?

Let’s take a look at the following downside of not using a moisturizer at all:

  • Wrinkles will start to appear early.

Neglecting the use of moisturizer might lead to deeper wrinkle marks.  In the long run, when we get older, the skin becomes dry naturally. If you did not use any moisturizer to augment it, it will lead to wrinkle formation.

Just in case you already have the wrinkles and fine lines on your face, it will only worsen when you neglect it without using moisturizers to lessen its impact.

  • It will worsen your acne and pimple

Without properly moisturizing the skin, it will only worsen the acne and pimple breakouts. Not many know that dry skin can worsen the appearance of acne and pimples.  Some are afraid to have that greasy feel of moisturizers on their skin.  You may opt for an oil-free moisturizer to get rid of the greasy feel.

  • It will have that itchy feeling.

When the skin is tight and dry, it normally gives off an itchy feel which can make us feel a little awkward.  Itchiness may indicate that your skin is becoming drier and it needs a little moisturizing to ease that effect.

Now laying down all the facts about moisturizer, it is up to you to decide whether to continue using it or to stop the use of it.  Whatever decision you make, it is all up to you and the skin condition that you have right now.  After all, it is your skin.
